Possibly China’s most luxurious gift tea. The Tai Ping Hou Kui won the 2004 King of Tea award. In 2007, Chinese president Hu Jintao presented this tea as a gift to President Vladimir Putin. It’s mellow, soothing and rejuvenating. This tea is sometimes also known as as ‘Monkey King’ tea in the West.

How to steep Tai King Hou Kui?

To bring out the best flavour, apply water at 75 – 80°C (170-175ºF). Straight glasses are also the most suitable to fit the long flat leaves.

Put 3-4g Tai Ping Hou Kui leaves into a straight glass, then slowly pour in the hot water and let it brew for 3 minutes. Alternatively, you may also add hot water in the glass first and then slowly stick the leaves one by one in the glass. This may result in a more beautiful appearance.

This green tea can generally be brewed for up to 3 times. Gradually increase steeping time and temperature for subsequent brewing.

Which region of China is Monkey Picked Green Tea from?

The Monkey King (Tai Ping Hou Kui) is a native to the regions near Yellow Mountain in Anhui Province, an area which produces other famous variety of green teas, like Huang Shan Mao Feng and Liu An Melon Seed. The best Tai Ping Hou Kui is grown in the villages of Houkeng, Hougang and Yanjiachun at the foot of the Yellow Mountain, villages with a hundreds year long tradition for producing loose green teas.
